Shenandoah Conservatory’s Distinguished Artist-In-Residence John O’Conor returns to The World of the Piano Series with a recital featuring the majestic Sonata in C Minor by Schubert and Beethoven’s beloved “Pathetique” sonata. Other program highlights include a sonata by Haydn and three nocturnes by Irish pianist and composer John Field.

The Pridonoff Duo
Sunday, November 6
Recognized as one of the world's premiere piano duo teams, Elizabeth and Eugene Pridonoff make their World of the Piano Series debut with an exciting four-hand/two-piano program which includes Saint-Saens’ Variations on a Theme of Beethoven and Percy Grainger’s virtuosic setting of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.

Anton Nel
Sunday, February 26
Prize-winning pianist Anton Nel has been concertizing worldwide for more than four decades, performing recitals in major venues and performing as a soloist with many of the world’s great orchestras. An acclaimed interpreter of Beethoven’s music, Nel will perform Beethoven’s “Les Adieux” sonata as well as transcriptions of Schubert songs by Romantic-era piano virtuosi, J.S. Bach’s Partita No. 4 in D Major and Suite Bergamasque by Claude Debussy featuring the famous Claire de lune.

Alexej Gorlatch

Twenty-three-year-old piano sensation Alexej Gorlatch has been wowing audiences and critics with his sensitive and mature playing. The New York Times said “Gorlatch played with finesse and maturity that belied his youth.” In this program he performs Brahms’ richly colorful Ballades, Op.10 as well as major works by Chopin and Beethoven. Ann Schein
Sunday, April 15
A favorite on The World of the Piano series, Ann Schein has performed with many great conductors and orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has also performed and recorded with famed soprano Jessye Norman. In this program, she performs monumental works of the piano repertoire including Beethoven’s Eroica Variations, Schubert’s "Wanderer" Fantasy in C major, Op. 15, and Etudes Tableaux, Op. 33, a group of magnificent but rarely performed works by Rachmaninoff.
